Big Y Foods will open two new Big Y Express Fuel and Convenience locations July 15 in Connecticut.

Located at 580 Main St. in Somers and 241 Hazard Ave. in Enfield, the stores will open as Big Y Express. These locations will bring the total number in Connecticut to six. The first Big Y Express opened in 2013 in Lee, Massachusetts.

These Big Y Express locations contain eight pumping positions each with 87, 89 and 93 octane fuel and diesel. A free air machine is available for tires. Additional amenities include its signature Wide Awake bean-to-cup coffee, as well as grab-and-go staples like milk, cold drinks and snacks.

Big Y Express is open from 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekends.

The company is hiring for management and select part-time positions in both locations. Interested applicants may apply at bigy.com/careers. Big Y offers flexible shifts and many scheduling options.

“Big Y is the perfect working environment for those seeking flexible shifts and excellent benefits,” said Meaghan Tetreault, senior manager of employee relations and field services.

In addition to the customary 5 cents per gallon discounts, myBigY members can earn an incremental $1.50 savings per gallon based upon their grocery purchases at any Big Y market. Fuel rewards are automatically loaded to their account for use at the fuel station and applied at each pump. Additionally, Big Y’s Fleet Fuel Rewards Program saves additional time and money at any Express location.

“We are always looking to bring our customers even more, especially during these challenging times,” said Charles L. D’Amour, president and CEO. “We are excited to not only help our customers save on their fueling needs but also make life easier by offering quick convenience items that our customers can grab on the run.”

Springfield, Massachusetts-based Big Y Foods Inc. is one of the largest independently-owned supermarket chains in New England. Big Y operates locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut, including supermarkets, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors and Big Y Express gas and convenience locations with more than 10,000 employees. Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based Dollar General has announced recent expansions in its global supply chain network, including the opening of its first ground-up, dual facility in Blair, Nebraska, and two permanent regional distribution hubs in Newnan, Georgia, and Fort Worth, Texas.

The company also announced expansion plans at facilities in Jonesville, South Carolina, and Amsterdam, New York.

“The recent additions to our supply chain network aim to provide greater efficiencies, create additional jobs and drive positive economic impact,” said Tony Zuazo, Dollar General’s EVP of global supply chain. “We’re excited to continue growing our distribution center network to further support store growth and to better serve our customers and local communities.”

Blair, Nebraska

Dollar General recently opened its Blair, Nebraska, distribution center, which is expected to create about 400 new jobs at full capacity and represents an approximate $140 million investment in Washington County.

As the company’s first ground-up dual distribution center, it will combine the efficiencies of traditional and DG Fresh supply chain networks, which is its strategic, multi-phased shift to self-distribution of frozen and refrigerated products. The DG Fresh network is delivering to more than 19,000 stores from 12 facilities. A formal grand opening celebration is scheduled for summer.

Permanent regional facilities

The company recently increased distribution center storage capacity by more than two million square feet through new permanent regional facilities in Newnan, Georgia, and Fort Worth, Texas. Each facility will employ approximately 200 people at full capacity and serve as an intermediary point between import locations and Dollar General’s distribution center network.

Jonesville, South Carolina

The company announced a $45 million expansion investment in its Jonesville, South Carolina, distribution center, which opened in 2005. The 250,000 square foot addition was completed in spring.

Amsterdam, New York

Dollar General plans to build a 170,000 square foot DG Fresh facility to complement the company’s traditional distribution center that opened in 2019. The company plans to close on the property by fall and begin construction in 2024.

Dollar General is also under construction on three recently-announced distribution centers in North Little Rock, Arkansas; Aurora, Colorado; and Salem, Oregon.

Dollar General believes the addition of each distribution center represents positive economic impact in the communities it serves and takes several factors into consideration when choosing distribution center sites, including proximity to DG stores, local business environments and local workforces.

Enmarket held a grand opening and ribbon cutting for a new location at 3651 Highway 17 in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

A large crowd from the community gathered to help celebrate. Guests were treated to free giveaways and product samplings from vendors such as Red Bull, Monster Energy, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Leopold’s Ice Cream and Ghost Energy.

“We are excited to be able to better serve our customers in Bryan County,” said Matt Clements, president of Enmarket, a division of Savannah-based Colonial Group. “This new store will allow us to help motorists and shoppers in one of the fastest-growing communities in the Southeast.”

The Richmond Hill store becomes the 130th store in Enmarket’s inventory across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The building is a refinement of Enmarket’s prototype, the store location next to the corporate offices off Ogeechee Road near Chatham Parkway, optimizing unused space in the original design and eliminating equipment. These adjustments make the store more efficient to build, operate and shop in, but the look and feel of the prototype have been retained.

The store includes food service from the Eatery and Mooz frozen yogurt and offers an in-bay Marketwash car wash.

Enmarket employs more than 1,300 people and operates 130 convenience stores that include 29 Eatery locations. The company also operates 16 restaurants branded as Subway, Larry’s Giant Subs, Baldino’s and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, as well as 25 Marketwash car washes.

The company was founded as Interstate Stations by Robert Demere in 1964. Enmarket gives back to the community through charitable contributions and volunteer efforts. Enmarket secured the naming rights in 2021 for the Enmarket Arena.

New store brings Allsup’s favorites to NASCAR, IndyCar fans trackside

Yesway opened an Allsup’s location April 1 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, in time for the spring and summer racing season.

Yesway and TMS recently reached a multi-year agreement naming Allsup’s as the new official convenience store of Texas Motor Speedway. The store is a first-of-its-kind Allsup’s Express Grab & Go concept that offers race fans an opportunity to enjoy Allsup’s burritos, chimichangas and other favorites.

“We are thrilled to bring Allsup’s to Texas Motor Speedway and share our brand of hospitality with race fans,” said Doug Wald, SVP of retail operations for Yesway. “Our stores have been a staple in the Southwest for nearly 70 years, and we’re excited to warmly welcome the hundreds of thousands of NASCAR and IndyCar enthusiasts who visit the Speedway each year,” said Brian Ashburn, Yesway’s SVP of retail operations.

The 1,600-square-foot store is located inside Gate 4 on the main concourse at the speedway, which hosts NASCAR events, IndyCar races, concerts and more throughout the year. Beer and other general merchandise items that people might need at events, like sunscreen, pain relievers and beverages, are among the items available for purchase. Customers who visit the Allsup’s Grab & Go store at TMS will be checked out by employees using handheld card readers rather than traditional cash registers, enabling them to grab, go and quickly return to the race.

Established in 2015, Yesway is a multi-branded platform headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, which operates 438 stores located in Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Yesway operates its portfolio primarily under two brands, Yesway and Allsup’s, with sites that are differentiated through a leading food service offering, featuring Allsup’s deep-fried burrito and a wide variety of high-quality grocery items and private-label products.

San Antonio-based H-E-B has introduced its rebranded H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store, which will provide customers more fresh options, such as produce, prepared food and meal options.

On April 13, the first H-E-B Fresh Bites opened adjacent to the H-E-B on Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Leander, Texas, which also features the company’s second True Texas Tacos restaurant.

H-E-B Fresh Bites

Additionally, the convenience store in Lytle is also undergoing renovations and will introduce the Fresh Bites brand when work is complete in the coming weeks. The Lytle location, which remains operational during renovations, will also include a True Texas Tacos restaurant.

With the opening of the Leander location, H-E-B has 12 convenience stores throughout Texas. Beginning this year, the company will continue its plans to update the layout of the remaining convenience stores to the H-E-B Fresh Bites brand. No plans or timelines have been set for updates to the other locations.

H-E-B Fresh Bites will offer customers a variety of fresh options beyond offerings usually found at a traditional convenience store. H-E-B Fresh Bites locations will feature several refrigerated cases stocked with items, such as fresh produce, salads, sandwiches and sushi made daily, meat and cheese snacks, fresh juices, kombucha and meal simple options.

Throughout the store, customers will find H-E-B Select Ingredients items in addition to normal convenience offerings, such as soft drink fountains, beer and wine and other snacks.

H-E-B Fresh Bites

“At H-E-B, we’re always looking to provide Texans convenient ways to get their hands on quality, fresh foods that are good for them,” said Scott Campbell, convenience store operations manager. “With the introduction of H-E-B Fresh Bites, we’re bringing the freshest products to our customers who are on the go but want a better alternative to traditional convenience store snacks.

“The True Texas Tacos concept, which H-E-B launched in San Antonio in 2018, showcases a menu of more than a dozen breakfast and specialty tacos made with the freshest ingredients. Tacos range from traditional Tex-Mex offerings such as bacon and egg and bean and cheese to specialty bites such as barbacoa and chopped Texas brisket.

“Customers can even get creative, mixing ingredients to make their own unique, specialty tacos. All flour tortillas are made in house and corn tortillas are available upon request. And for that extra spicy kick, there’s a salsa bar with several spicy sauces and taco-appropriate condiments.”

The Enmarket Charity Classic returned March 23, raising $250,000 to be split between the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire and Make-A-Wish Georgia.

This was the fourth annual Enmarket Charity Classic, which is part of the company’s sponsorship of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia. More than 280 golfers took part this year.

“This event benefits two remarkable nonprofit organizations, and Enmarket couldn’t be prouder of our role in helping both the 200 Club and Make-A-Wish Georgia,” said Matt Clements, president. “We recognize how vital it is to be a good corporate citizen, but beyond that, events like the Enmarket Charity Classic also illustrate the joys of living in the Coastal Empire.”

The 200 Club serves the families of fallen first responders in the local area, while Make-A-Wish Georgia grants wishes of critically ill children.

“Enmarket and the Enmarket family have a long history of generous support for the 200 Club,” said Mark Dana, president of the organization. “This backing makes it possible for us to support the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community.”

Meghan Lowe, southeast development director for Make-A-Wish Georgia, said, “We bring hope to our local wish kids and their families, and we couldn’t do it without the generous support of companies like Enmarket and the Enmarket Charity Classic sponsors. Our vision of granting the wish of every child in our area is only possible through the dedicated commitment of long-term supporters like Enmarket.”

Participants played the Marshwood and Magnolia courses at The Landings Golf and Athletic Club.

Enmarket, a Savannah, Georgia-based convenience store chain, employs more than 1,300 people and operates 130 convenience stores, 14 quick-serve restaurants and two fast-casual restaurants in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. The company was founded as Interstate Stations by Robert Demere in 1964. It gives back to the community through many charitable contributions and volunteer efforts.
